Abstract:
Binaural rendering for 3D audio production and virtual reality typically employs non-individual head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) and Ambisonics. While localization in the horizontal plane works quite well, median plane localization is often deteriorated. This simulation study uses the Baumgartner model from the Auditory Modeling Toolbox to investigate how median plane localization is affected by (non-)individual HRTFs and Ambisonics of different orders and decoder strategies.
